Okay, I know Christmas is over, but the lime in this candle makes it acceptable, in my book, to leave out until spring.  My favorite Christmas candle is Mistletoe from Yankee Candle, but this new Pinecone & Lime scent is mixes two of my favorite things and I cannot get enough of it!

I’m also loving Oreos.  More specifically, the Oreo ice cream my husband made with these Oreos that we ate up too quickly for me to get a picture of.  Whoopsie…

Essie Repstyle!  Have you tried any magnetic nail polishes!?  This is the first one I’ve tried, and I LOVE the pattern it creates.  It took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of using the magnet it worked well, and the results look like they took way more time than they did.  Full review post coming with my tips for using the magnet!

Piperlime Peplum Top

Lately I’ve been looking to add printed pieces to my closet — so many of my tops and even dresses are solids!  This Pim + Larkin top from Piperlime fits the bill.  A happy, pretty print, short sleeved for easy layering and a peplum shape to boot.  I’ll definitely be watching for this baby to go on sale!

For the last four months of 2012 I tried out a Glossybox subscription at a discount through Refinery29.  If you don’t know, a Glossybox subscription means each month you’re sent a box full of beauty samples, some full size, some sample size, to check out from various brands.  I was nervous to try it because I was afraid I’d get a box full of things I’d never use, but I was pleasantly surprised to be really excited about at least one thing in each box.  I also did use everything in each box.

One of the products I found via Glossybox was Alterna’s Bamboo Luminous Shine Mist and I fell in love with it!  I have pretty healthy hair but my hair has never been particularly shiny until I started using this product.  I style my hair like normal and then just spray this over my whole head and work it in a little with my fingers.  It smooths minor flyaways and makes my hair so soft and shiny.  This product will definitely be part of my arsenal for a while!  I’m also considering trying the shampoo and conditioner in the Bamboo Shine line.

Have you tried any of Alterna’s products?  What are your favorites?

Why:  This sweater was a new piece I got during the after-Christmas sales.  It was a little more expensive ($25 at 50% off) than I was looking for, normally when I shop those sales I’m looking for pieces $20 and under, but it’s classic enough to last a long time in my closet.  I love how the bow wraps all the way around like a present would!

I got these pumps from Nine West last year for $30 on a trip to Chicago and I love them for a low, comfortable heel.  They proved to be very effective while shooting weddings this year, allowing me to move as quickly and easily as I can in flats but helping me feel dressed up enough to be attending a wedding.

I’ve got more posts lined up with some of my other sale finds — find me on Instagram for a sneak peek!

Where: to the studio

Why: My responsibilities at the studio vary and with that my appropriate attire varies.  Leggings and jeans are my go to for days full of photoshop, and while they also work for client meetings, sometimes I like to get use out of the dressier side of my closet.  This skirt, shirt, tights and booties is something that could easily be worn in a typical office setting with a cute belt and long necklace to add flavor.  But since we’re more causal at the studio, I added a motorcycle vest and pretty scarf to both keep me warm on this windy, windy day(see my skirt flying?!) and to dress it down.

What’s your favorite way to dress down your professional pieces?

The first thing I’m thankful for this week is our wedding album!  It arrived late last week and I basically ripped it out of the box.  Ross and I picked the images together about two months ago and then I spent many hours designing it and getting it just how I wanted it.  Throughout the process I took the files home to show Ross and make sure he was happy with the progress, and to give me a chance to step away and look at it with fresh eyes.  In the end I am soooo happy with how it turned out!  Above is the cover and a shot of one of my favorite spreads, shots of me with my little sisters.  Adam did an amazing job capturing our day despite the pouring rain and Ross and I are so thankful for these images that we will treasure forever!

My Christmas kind of lasts forever, so this past weekend finally wrapped up all the Christmas celebrations I attended!  I love this globe ornament from my friend, it’s too pretty to just have out at Christmas so I’ve hung it on the door of a dresser/storage piece we have in our office nook.

My aunt got me the simplest yet most amazing gift for Christmas.  I paint my nails a couple of times a week and go through a lot of top coat, so she got me the professional size version of my favorite top coat!  It’s eight times the size of the usual bottle and came with a funnel to refill the small bottles!  I was so excited, this should last me a full year for sure!

Wedge Sneakers

1- Steve Madden – $100   2- Modern Vice – $130   3- Rachel Roy – $149   4- Madden Girl – $60

5- ASOS – $44   6- Sketchers – $80   7- BDG – $79   8- Ash – $200

Lately I’ve really been loving the idea of a wedge sneaker.  I’m generally short, so any added height is always appreciated, and my favorite way to do that when I’m on the go is with a wedge.  They’re so much more comfortable than heels — and can be as dressy or casual as needed.  It’s hard to pick, but I think my favorites of these eight are #3 because they’re so girly and cute, and #6 because I love a little leather incorporated in anything I wear.

I’m pretty confident that #8 is what some of the girls wore for the final performance in Pitch Perfect, which is pretty much the main reason they made it onto this board.  I love that movie!  Have you seen it?  What did you think?

eliza and james

When I first saw these Elizabeth and James heels I loved the pointy toe, the t-strap and the buckle closure, but $325.00 they’re not exactly a bargain.

Enter these ASOS heels.  Same pointy toe, same t strap, same buckle closure.  It’s hard to argue with a savings of $281.02!  These heels are only $43.98 and because ASOS always has free shipping, you could save even more.  An added bonus?  Both the Elizabeth and James heels and ASOS heels also come in nude.

Where:  Christmas at my grandparent’s house

Why: My grandparent’s house for Christmas always involves grazing all day — we get there for lunch and stay through to dinner with presents, football and games between the meals, but much of the food is left out all day.  I knew I wanted to wear something comfortable that could expand with me and this sweater is perfect for that — oversized and baggy, and really warm.  While skinny jeans aren’t the most conducive to a day of eating these have a lot of stretch to them and I knew that if need be I could unbutton them(who hasn’t done that from time to time?!) and the loose sweater would keep my secret.  Because we’d be making lots of trips carrying things in and out of the house I wore my flat brown boots — they kept me warm and kept me balanced on the snowy/icy driveway.

Where:  Out for New Year’s Eve!

Why:  The end of the year is always super busy for Ross’s job, so we decided to have a low key New Year’s Eve.  We went to Les Miserables, which we both loved, and out to Noodles and Co for supper.  It’s one of our favorite places to eat.  Even though our plans weren’t that exciting I decided to dress up a little bit anyway, but wanted to be comfy in the theater.  These leggings were just perfect!  I was so excited when I found them a few months ago because I love the look of leather leggings, but not the price tag.  These rubberized ones look enough like leather to please me, and I got them for $30 with a coupon code!  I wore booties with them because I knew I could kick them off once we were seated, but wearing heels always makes leaving the house feel more special.

I hope you all had a fabulous New Year’s Eve!  What did you do?  What did you wear?
